Surah Al-Qalam
Bismillaah ir rahmaan ir raheem
ن وَالْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُونَ
﴿١﴾
68/Al-Qalam-1: Noon val kaalami va mea yasturoon(yasturoona).
Nûn. By the Pen and what it writes down line by line. (1)
مَا أَنتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُونٍ
﴿٢﴾
68/Al-Qalam-2: Mea anta bi ni’mati raabbika bi macnoon(macnoonin).
By the Blessing of your Lord, you are not mad. (2)
وَإِنَّ لَكَ لَأَجْرًا غَيْرَ مَمْنُونٍ
﴿٣﴾
68/Al-Qalam-3: Va inna laka la acran gaayra mamnoon(mamnoonin).
And most surely, for you will be a reward never to be cut off. (3)
وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلى خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ
﴿٤﴾
68/Al-Qalam-4: Va innaka la aalea hulukın aazeem(aazeemin).
And most surely you are on a high level of morality. (4)
فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ
﴿٥﴾
68/Al-Qalam-5: Fa sa tubsıru va yubsıroon(yubsıroona).
So you shall soon see, and they too shall see. (5)
بِأَييِّكُمُ الْمَفْتُونُ
﴿٦﴾
68/Al-Qalam-6: Bi ayyikumul maftoon(maftoonu).
Which of you is the demented (perplexed)? (6)
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ
﴿٧﴾
68/Al-Qalam-7: Inna raabbaka huva aa’lamu bi man daalla aan sabeelihee va huva aa’lamu bil muhtadeen(muhtadeena).
Surely your Lord, He best knows him who has gone astray from His Way, and He also best knows those who have reached Hidayet. (7)
فَلَا تُطِعِ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ
﴿٨﴾
68/Al-Qalam-8: Fa lea tutııl mukazzibeen(mukazzibeena).
Therefore, do not obey those who belie. (8)
وَدُّوا لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ
﴿٩﴾
68/Al-Qalam-9: Vaddoo lav tudhinu fa yudhinoon(yudhinoona).
They wished (asked) that you should be lenient so they too would be lenient. (9)
وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِينٍ
﴿١٠﴾
68/Al-Qalam-10: Va lea tutı’ kulla haalleafin maheen(maheenin).
And do not obey any of those who swear much in vainness. (10)
هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّاء بِنَمِيمٍ
﴿١١﴾
68/Al-Qalam-11: Hammeazin mashsheain bi nameem(nameemin).
To those who constantly try to find others’ mistakes, carry the words to others (do not obey them). (11)
مَنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
﴿١٢﴾
68/Al-Qalam-12: Manneaın lil haayri mu’tadin aseem(aseemin).
To those who hinder the good, the sinful who exceed the limits (do not obey them). (12)
عُتُلٍّ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ زَنِيمٍ
﴿١٣﴾
68/Al-Qalam-13: Utullin baa’da zealika zaneem(zaneemin).
To those tyrant who harm, besides all that, the sinful who possesses without right (do not obey them). (13)
أَن كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ
﴿١٤﴾
68/Al-Qalam-14: An keana zea mealin va baneen(baneena).
(Because) they have wealth and sons (do not obey them). (14)
إِذَا تُتْلَى عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ
﴿١٥﴾
68/Al-Qalam-15: Izea tutlea aalayhi eayeatunea keala aseateerul avvaleen(avvaleena).
When Our Verses were recited to him, he said: “The tales of the men of old”. (15)
سَنَسِمُهُ عَلَى الْخُرْطُومِ
﴿١٦﴾
68/Al-Qalam-16: Sa nasimuhu aalal hurtoom(hurtoomi).
Soon We shall brand him on his nose. (16)
إِنَّا بَلَوْنَاهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَا أَصْحَابَ الْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ
﴿١٧﴾
68/Al-Qalam-17: Innea balavneahum ka mea balavnea aasheabal cannah(cannati), iz aaksamoola yaasri munnahea musbiheen(musbiheena).
Surely We afflicted them, as We afflicted the owners of the garden, as they were swearing to share its crop early in the morning (without showing them to the poor). (17)
وَلَا يَسْتَثْنُونَ
﴿١٨﴾
68/Al-Qalam-18: Va lea yastasnoon(yastasnoona).
And they are not making any exceptions. (18)
فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَائِفٌ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَائِمُونَ
﴿١٩﴾
68/Al-Qalam-19: Fa teafa aalayhea teaifun min raabbika va hum neaimoon(neaimoona).
But there passed by on it (the garden) a disaster by your Lord while they were sleeping. (19)
فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَالصَّرِيمِ
﴿٢٠﴾
68/Al-Qalam-20: Fa aasbaahaat kas saareem(saareemi).
So it (the crop) turned black (the garden turned to a barren land). (20)
فَتَنَادَوا مُصْبِحِينَ
﴿٢١﴾
68/Al-Qalam-21: Fa taneadav musbiheen(musbiheena).
Finally they called out to each other at daybreak. (21)
أَنِ اغْدُوا عَلَى حَرْثِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَارِمِينَ
﴿٢٢﴾
68/Al-Qalam-22: Anıgdoo aalea haarsikum in kuntum searımeen(searımeena).
If you are going to share, go to your garden early! (22)
فَانطَلَقُوا وَهُمْ يَتَخَافَتُونَ
﴿٢٣﴾
68/Al-Qalam-23: Fantaalakoo va hum yataheafatoon(yataheafatoona).
So they left (the house), whispering to one another. (23)
أَن لَّا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا الْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُم مِّسْكِينٌ
﴿٢٤﴾
68/Al-Qalam-24: An lea yadhulannahal yavma aalaykum miskeen(miskeenun).
Do not allow anyone poor enter there (the garden) today next to you. (24)
وَغَدَوْا عَلَى حَرْدٍ قَادِرِينَ
﴿٢٥﴾
68/Al-Qalam-25: Va gaadav aalea haardin keadireen(keadireena).
And they went early in the morning, thinking that they have power (to prevent the poor) from entering. (25)
فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوا إِنَّا لَضَالُّونَ
﴿٢٦﴾
68/Al-Qalam-26: Fa lammea raavhea kealoo innea la dealloon(dealloona).
But when they saw it (the condition of the garden) they said: “Most surely we are the people who are in Misguidance”. (26)
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
﴿٢٧﴾
68/Al-Qalam-27: Bal naahnu maahroomoon(maahroomoona).
Nay! Indeed we are deprived people. (27)
قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ لَوْلَا تُسَبِّحُونَ
﴿٢٨﴾
68/Al-Qalam-28: Keala avsaatuhum a lam akul lakum lavlea tusabbihoon(tusabbihoona).
The one who could think most reasonably said: “Did I not tell you that if you do not glorify (Allah) that would not be (that you have to glorify)? (28)
قَالُوا سُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ
﴿٢٩﴾
68/Al-Qalam-29: Kealoo subheana raabbinea innea kunnea zealimeen(zealimeena).
They said: “Glory be to our Lord (He is Omnipotent), surely We have become wrong-doing people”. (29)
فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ يَتَلَاوَمُونَ
﴿٣٠﴾
68/Al-Qalam-30: Fa aakbala baa’duhum aalea baa’dın yataleavamoon(yataleavamoona).
Then they replied to each other, blaming one another. (30)
قَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا طَاغِينَ
﴿٣١﴾
68/Al-Qalam-31: Kealoo yea vaylanea innea kunnea teageen(teageena).
Woe to us, surely we have become the people who exceeded the limit. (31)
عَسَى رَبُّنَا أَن يُبْدِلَنَا خَيْرًا مِّنْهَا إِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا رَاغِبُونَ
﴿٣٢﴾
68/Al-Qalam-32: AAsea raabbunea an yubdilanea haayran minhea innea ilea raabbinea reagıboon(reagıboona).
It is hoped that our Lord will give us better than this instead. Surely we are the ones who love our Lord. (32)
كَذَلِكَ الْعَذَابُ وَلَعَذَابُ الْآخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ
﴿٣٣﴾
68/Al-Qalam-33: Kazealikal aazeab(aazeabu), va la aazeabul eahırati akbar(akbaru), lav keanoo yaa’lamoon(yaa’lamoona).
This is how the torment is, certainly the Torment of the Hereafter is greater, did they but know! (33)
إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ
﴿٣٤﴾
68/Al-Qalam-34: Inna lil muttakeena ında raabbihim canneatin naaeem(naaeemi).
Surely for the owners of piety there are Naîm heavens with their Lord. (34)
أَفَنَجْعَلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ كَالْمُجْرِمِينَ
﴿٣٥﴾
68/Al-Qalam-35: A fa nacaalul muslimeena kal mucrimeen(mucrimeena).
Just like that, shall We make (consider) Muslimîn (those who are submitted) as the sinners (guilty)? (35)
مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ
﴿٣٦﴾
68/Al-Qalam-36: Mea lakum, kayfa taahkumoon(taahkumoona).
What is the matter with you? How do you judge? (36)
أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَابٌ فِيهِ تَدْرُسُونَ
﴿٣٧﴾
68/Al-Qalam-37: Am lakum kiteabun feehi tadrusoon(tadrusoona).
Or do you have a Book from which you acquire knowledge? (37)
إِنَّ لَكُمْ فِيهِ لَمَا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
﴿٣٨﴾
68/Al-Qalam-38: Inna lakum feehi lamea tahaayyaroon(tahaayyaroona).
What you like and choose in it (that book) are surely yours (is that written in it)? (38)
أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَانٌ عَلَيْنَا بَالِغَةٌ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ إِنَّ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُونَ
﴿٣٩﴾
68/Al-Qalam-39: Am lakum aymeanun aalaynea bealigaatun ilea yavmil kıyeamati inna lakum lamea taahkumoon(taahkumoona).
Or do you have oaths from Us, all the way to the Day of Resurrection that ‘yours is what you judge’. (39)
سَلْهُم أَيُّهُم بِذَلِكَ زَعِيمٌ
﴿٤٠﴾
68/Al-Qalam-40: Sal hum ayyuhum bi zealika zaeem(zaeemun).
Ask them “which of them is the defender of this? (40)
أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَاء فَلْيَأْتُوا بِشُرَكَائِهِمْ إِن كَانُوا صَادِقِينَ
﴿٤١﴾
68/Al-Qalam-41: Am lahum shurakeau, fal ya’too bi shurakeaihim in keanoo seadikeen(seadikeena).
Or do they have partners? Then let them bring their partners, if they are the truthful. (41)
يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَن سَاقٍ وَيُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى السُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
﴿٤٢﴾
68/Al-Qalam-42: Yavma yukshafu aan seakın va yud’aavna ilas sucoodi fa lea yastateeoon(yastateeoona).
On the Day when all the truth shall come out openly, they shall be called to prostrate themselves but they shall not be able (to do so). (42)
خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ وَقَدْ كَانُوا يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى السُّجُودِ وَهُمْ سَالِمُونَ
﴿٤٣﴾
68/Al-Qalam-43: Heashiaatan absearuhum tarhakuhum zillah(zillatun), va kaad keanoo yud’aavna ilas sucoodi va hum sealimoon(sealimoona).
An abasement covers them as their eyes fear with dread. They were called to prostrate themselves while they were well (healthy and safe). (43)
فَذَرْنِي وَمَن يُكَذِّبُ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم مِّنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
﴿٤٤﴾
68/Al-Qalam-44: Fa zarnee va man yukazzibu bi heazal haadees(haadeesi), sa nastadricuhum min haaysu lea yaa’lamoon(yaa’lamoona).
So leave Me the people who belied this Word. We soon will lead them slowly (to the torment) from whence they do not perceive. (44)
وَأُمْلِي لَهُمْ إِنَّ كَيْدِي مَتِينٌ
﴿٤٥﴾
68/Al-Qalam-45: Va umlee lahum, inna kaydee mateen(mateenun).
And I am giving them time. Surely My plot is severe. (45)
أَمْ تَسْأَلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ
﴿٤٦﴾
68/Al-Qalam-46: Am tas’aluhum acran fa hum min maagramin muskaaloon(muskaaloona).
Or is it that you ask them a wage? So that they are heavily burdened with debt? (46)
أَمْ عِندَهُمُ الْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ
﴿٤٧﴾
68/Al-Qalam-47: Am inda humul gaaybu fahum yaktuboon(yaktuboona).
Or that the Unseen (the unknown worlds) is near them, so that they write down? (47)
فَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تَكُن كَصَاحِبِ الْحُوتِ إِذْ نَادَى وَهُوَ مَكْظُومٌ
﴿٤٨﴾
68/Al-Qalam-48: Faasbir li hukmi raabbika va lea takun ka seahıbil hoot(hooti), iz neadea va huva makzoom(makzoomun).
So wait patiently for the Judgment of your Lord, and be not like the owner of the Fish (like Jonah). He had cried out (to his Lord) while he was in deep sorrow. (48)
لَوْلَا أَن تَدَارَكَهُ نِعْمَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِ لَنُبِذَ بِالْعَرَاء وَهُوَ مَذْمُومٌ
﴿٤٩﴾
68/Al-Qalam-49: Lavlea an tadearakahu ni’matun min raabbihee la nubiza bil aareai va huva mazmoom(mazmoomun).
Had not a Blessing from his Lord reached him, he would certainly have been cast down upon the naked ground while he was blamed. (49)
فَاجْتَبَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَجَعَلَهُ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ
﴿٥٠﴾
68/Al-Qalam-50: Factabeahu raabbuhu fa caaalahu minas sealiheen(sealiheena).
But his Lord chose him, and made him of the improved ones. (50)
وَإِن يَكَادُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَارِهِمْ لَمَّا سَمِعُوا الذِّكْرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنَّهُ لَمَجْنُونٌ
﴿٥١﴾
68/Al-Qalam-51: Va in yakeadullazeena kafaroo la yuzlikoonaka bi absearihim lammea sameeooz zikraa va yakooloona innahu la macnoon(macnoonun).
And those who deny almost knock you down to the ground with their eyes when they hear the Dhikr (the Qur’ân) and they say: “Most surely he is indeed mad”. (51)
وَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَالَمِينَ
﴿٥٢﴾
68/Al-Qalam-52: Va mea huva illea zikrun lil ealameen(ealameena).
And it (the Qur’an) is nothing else but a Dhikr (Reminder) for the Worlds. (52)
