Surah Al-Ma'idah

Bismillaah ir rahmaan ir raheem

5/Al-Ma'idah-1: Yea ayyuheallazeena eamanoo avfoo bil ukood(ukoodi) uhıllat lakum baheematul an’eami illea mea yutlea aalaykum gaayraa muhillees saaydi va antum hurum(hurumun) innaalleaha yaahkumu mea yureed(yureedu).
O you who believe (who wish to reach Allah and submit to Him)! Fulfill the contracts (you have). Lawful to you all the cattle quadrupeds except that which is announced to you although it is not considered as lawful to hunt while you are putting on the pilgrim’s garb; surely Allah orders what He wills. (1)
5/Al-Ma'idah-2: Yea ayyuheallazeena eamanoo lea tuhılloo shaeairaalleahi va leash shahraal haareama va leal hadya va leal kaaleaida va lea eammeenal baytal haareama yabtagoona faadlaan min raabbihim va rıdveanea(rıdveanan) va izea haalaltum faasteadoo va lea yacrimannakum shanaeanu kaavmin an saaddookum aanil mascidil haareami an taa’tadoo, va taeavanoo aaleal birri vat taakvaa va lea taeavanoo aaleal ismi val udveani vattakulleah(vattakulleaha) innaalleaha shadeedul ıkeab(ıkeabi).
O you who believe (who become âmenû, who wish to reach Allah and submit to Him)! Do not behave disrespectful to the decrees of Canon Law established by Allah nor to the Sacred Month, nor the animals brought (sent to Ka’ba as gifts) for sacrifice nor the sacrificial camels with garlands, nor to the security of those coming to the Sacred House seeking the Virtue from their Lord and His pleasure; but when you get out of the Ihrâm, you may hunt; and let not hatred of a people-because they hindered you from the Sacred Mosque-incite you to exceed the limits; and help one another in Birr and piety (takwâ), and do not help one another in sin and enmity and have piety towards Allah; surely Allah is Severe in punishment. (2)
5/Al-Ma'idah-3: Hurrimat aalaykumul maytatu vad damu va laahmul hınzeeri va mea uhılla li gaayrilleahi bihee val munhaanikaatu val mavkoozatu val mutaraddiyatu van naateehaatu va mea akalas sabuu illea mea zakkaytum va mea zubihaa aalean nusubi va an tastaaksimoo bil azleam(azleami), zealikum fisk(fiskun), al yavma yaisallazeena kafaroo min deenikum fa lea taahshavhum vaahshavni, al yavma akmaltu lakum deenakum va atmamtu aalaykum ni’matee va raadeetu lakumul isleama deenea(deenan) fa manidturraa fee maahmaasaatin gaayraa mutaceanifin li ismin fa innaalleaha gaafoorun raaheem(raaheemun).
Forbidden to you (for food) is that which dies of itself, and blood, and flesh of swine, and that on which any other name than that of Allah has been invoked, and that which has been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by the goring of horns-and that which has been eaten by a wild animal-unless you are able to slaughter it (before its death) –and that which is slaughtered for idols and that you settle matters with fortune-arrows; (all) that is a Fisk. This day, those who disbelieved have given up all hope of your religion as they could not turn you back of it, so do not fear them, and fear Me. This day, I have perfected for you your religion and completed My Blessing on you. And have approved for you Islam as religion. But whoever is compelled (to eat) by severe hunger, not inclining willfully to sin, then surely Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (3)
5/Al-Ma'idah-4: Yas’aloonaka meazea uhılla lahum kul uhılla lakumut taayyibeatu va mea aallamtum minal cavearihi mukallibeena tuaallimoonahunna mimmea aallamakumulleahu fa kuloo mimmea amsakna aalaykum vazkuroosmaalleahi aalayhi vattakoolleah(vattakoolleaha) innaalleaha sareeul hıseab(hıseabi).
They ask you what is lawful for them. Say: “Good and clean things are made lawful for you, and what you have taught the beasts and birds of prey, training them to hunt by teaching them of what Allah has taught you-so eat of that which they catch for you and mention Allah’s Name over it, and have piety towards Allah; surely Allah is Swift in reckoning. (4)
5/Al-Ma'idah-5: Al yavma uhılla lakumut taayyibeat(taayyibeatu) va taaeamullazeena ootool kiteaba hıllun lakum va taaeamukum hıllun lahum val muhsaaneatu minal mu’mineati val muhsaaneatu min allazeena utool kiteaba min kaablikum izea eataytumoohunna ucoorahunna muhsıneena gaayraa museafiheena va lea muttahızee ahdean(ahdeanin) va man yakfur bil eemeani fa kaad haabitaa aamaluhu va huva feel eahıraati minal heasireen(heasireena).
This day the good and clean things are made lawful for you. And the food of those who have been given the Book is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them. And the chaste from among the believing free women and the chaste from among those who have been given the Book before you are lawful for you when you have given them their marriage portion, taking them in marriage, not fornicating nor taking secret lovers. And whoever denies the Faith, his work indeed is vain, and in the Hereafter he shall be one of the losers. (5)
5/Al-Ma'idah-6: Yea ayyuheallazeena eamanoo izea kumtum ileas saaleati faagsiloo vucoohakum va aydiyakum ileal mareafikı vamsahoo bi ruusikum va arculakum ileal kaa’bayn(kaa’bayni) va in kuntum cunuban faattaahharoo va in kuntum maardea av aalea safarin av ceaa ahaadun minkum minal geaitı av leamastumun niseaa fa lam tacidoo meaan fa tayammamoo saaeedan taayyiban famsahoo bi vucoohikum va aydeekum minhu, mea yureedulleahu li yac’aala aalaykum min haaraacin va leakin yureedu li yutaahhiraakum va li yutimma ni’matahu aalaykum laaallakum tashkuroon(tashkuroona).
O you who believe (who are âmenû, who wish to reach Allah and submit to Him in this lifetime)! When you rise up for the Prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and your feet up to the ankles. And if you are under an obligation to perform a total ablution (if you are canonically unclean from sexual act) then wash your whole body. And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you come from the privy or you have touched women, and you cannot find water, then go to clean earth and rub your faces and your hands with some of it. Allah does not want to put on you any difficulty, but He wants to purify you and to complete His Blessing upon you. Hoped that you may be grateful. (6)
5/Al-Ma'idah-7: Vazkuroo ni’matalleahi aalaykum va meeseakaahullazee veasakaakum bihee iz kultum sami’nea va aataa’nea vattakoolleah(vattakoolleaha) innaalleaha aaleemun bizeatis sudoor(sudoori).
And remember the Blessing of Allah upon you and His Covenant with which He bound you firmly, when you said: “We have heard and obeyed”. And have piety (Takwâ) towards Allah, surely Allah is All-Knowing of what is in the breasts (bosom). (7)
5/Al-Ma'idah-8: Yea ayyuheallazeena eamanoo koonoo kaavveameena lilleahi shuhadeaa bil kıstı va lea yacrimannakum shanaeanu kaavmin aalea allea taa’diloo. I’diloo, huva aakraabu lit taakvaa vattakoolleah(vattakoolleaha) innaalleaha haabeerun bimea taa’maloon(taa’maloona).
O you who believe (who wish to reach Allah and submit to Him)! Be upright (maintain the truth) for Allah. Be the bearers of witness with justice. And let not resentment towards people incite you not to act justly. Act equitably, that is nearer to Piety (Takwâ), and have piety towards Allah. Surely Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do. (8)
5/Al-Ma'idah-9: Vaaaadalleahullazeena eamanoo va aamiloos sealiheati lahum maagfiraatun va acrun aazeem(aazeemun).
Allah has promised those who believe (who wish to reach Allah and submit to Him) and do improving deeds (cleansing and purifying the souls’ hearts) that they shall have forgiveness and a Mighty Reward (Ecrun Azîm). (9)
5/Al-Ma'idah-10: Vallazeena kafaroo va kazzaboo bi eayeatinea uleaika aasheabul caheem(caheemee).
And those who disbelieve and deny our Verses, they are the companions of the Flame (Hell-fire). (10)
5/Al-Ma'idah-11: Yea ayyuheallazeena eamanoozkuroo ni’mataalleahi aalaykum iz hamma kaavmun an yabsutoo ilaykum aydiyahum fa kaffa aydiyahum aankum, vattakoolleah(vattakoolleaha) va aalealleahi fal yatavakkalil mu’minoon(mu’minoona).
O you who believe (who wish to reach Allah before death and submit to Him)! Remember Allah’s Blessing upon you; when a people had determined to stretch forth their hands towards you, but (Allah) held back their hands from you. And have piety (Takwa) towards Allah (submit your spirit, physical body, soul and free will to Allah) and in Allah let the believers put their trust. (11)
Indeed Allah took the covenant from the Children of Israel. And We raised up from among them twelve leaders. And Allah said: “I am with you if you keep up the prayer, and give alms (Zakât), and believe in My Messengers and assist them, and lend to Allah a goodly loan, I will most certainly cover your sins and I will most certainly cause you to enter into Heavens under which the rivers flow”. But whoever disbelieves from among you after this has gone astray from the designed Way (that leads to Allah). (12)
5/Al-Ma'idah-13: Fa bimea naakdihim meeseakaahum laaanneahum va caaalnea kuloobahum keasiyat(keasiyatan), yuhaarrifoonal kalima aan maveadııhee va nasoo haazzaan mimmea zukkiroo bihee, va lea tazealu tattaaliu aalea heaınatin minhum illea kaaleelan minhum faa’fu aanhum vaasfaah innaalleaha yuhıbbul muhsineen(muhsineena).
So because of their breaking their covenant We cursed them and their hearts (completely dark). They altered the words from their places. And forgot their portion of what they were reminded of. And you experience deceit among them, except a few of them. So pardon and tolerate them. Surely Allah loves the Muhsin ones. (13)
5/Al-Ma'idah-14: Va minallazeena kealoo innea naasearea ahaaznea meeseakaahum fa nasoo haazzaan mimmea zukkiroo bihee fa aagraaynea baynahumul aadeavata val baagdeaa ilea yavmil kıyeamah(kıyeamati) va savfa yunabbiuhumulleahu bimea keanoo yaasnaaoon(yaasnaaoona).
And from those who say: surely, we are Christians, We took their covenant, but they forgot their portion of what they were reminded of. Therefore We excited among them enmity, grudge and hatred till the Day of Resurrection. Allah will inform them of what they used to do. (14)
5/Al-Ma'idah-15: Yea ahlal kiteabi kaad ceaakum rasoolunea yubayyinu lakum kaseeraan mimmea kuntum tuhfoona minal kiteabi va yaa’foo aan kaseer(kaseerin) kaad ceaakum minaalleahi noorun va kiteabun mubeen(mubeenun).
O People of the Book! Indeed our Messenger has come to you making clear to you much of what you concealed of the Book and much of what you gave up. Indeed there has come to you from Allah a Glory and a clear Book. (15)
5/Al-Ma'idah-16: Yahdee bihilleahu manittabaaa rıdveanahu subulas saleami va yuhricuhum minaz zulumeati ilean noori bi iznihee va yahdeehim ilea sıreatın mustaakeem(mustaakeemin).
Allah guides with him (with His Messenger) all who seek His Pleasure to the Ways of Surrender. And brings them out of utter darkness into the light (from torment to glory) with His Permission and guides them to Sırât-ı Mustakîm (the Path directed towards Allah). (16)
5/Al-Ma'idah-17: Lakaad kafarallazeena kealoo innaalleaha huval maseehubnu maryam(maryama) kul fa man yamliku minaalleahi shay’an in areada an yuhlikal maseehaabna maryama va ummahu va man feel aardı cameeaa(cameeaan) va lilleahi mulkus sameaveati val aardı va mea baynahumea. Yaahluku mea yasheau, vaalleahu aalea kulli shay’in kaadeer(kaadeerun).
They indeed became a disbeliever who says: “Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary”. Who then has the least power against Allah if He were to destroy the Messiah, son of Mary, his mother and all those who are on the earth together? And Allah’s is the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and what is between them. He creates what He wills. And Allah is Omnipotent. (17)
5/Al-Ma'idah-18: Va kealatil yaahoodu van naasearea naahnu abneaulleahi va ahıbbeauhu kul fa lima yuaazzibukum bi zunoobikul bal antum basharun mimman haalaak(haalaakaa) yaagfiru liman yasheau va yuaazzibu man yasheau va lilleahi mulkus sameaveati val aardı va mea baynahumea va ilayhil maaseer(maaseeru).
And the Jews and the Christians said: “We are the sons of Allah and His beloved ones”. Say: “Why does He then torment you for your sins”? Nay, you are human beings from among those whom He has created; He forgives whom He wills and torments whom He wills. And Allah’s is the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and what is between them. And to Him is the arrival (place to reach is His presence). (18)
5/Al-Ma'idah-19: Yea ahlal kiteabi kaad ceaakum rasoolunea yubayyinu lakum aalea fatratin min ar rusuli an takooloo mea ceaanea min basheerin va lea nazeerin fa kaad ceaakum basheerun va nazeer(nazeeru) vaalleahu aalea kulli shay’in kaadeer(kaadeerun).
O People of the Book! Indeed Our Messenger has come to you explaining the truth to you after a cessation of the Messengers (Prophets). Lest you say: “There did not come to us a giver of good news and a Warner”. Yet indeed there has come to you a giver of good news and a Warner. And Allah is Omnipotent. (19)

For this reason did we write to the Children of Israel (In Torah) that whoever kills a human being for other than manslaughter or for mischief in the earth, it is as though he had killed all mankind. And whoever saves the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind. And certainly Our Messengers came to them with the clear proofs. But even after that many of them certainly spent extravagantly in the earth. (32)

The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive to make mischief in the earth is to be murdered or hanged, or their hands and their feet to be cut off on opposite sides or to be exiled from where they are. This is their disgrace in this world. And for them there is in the Hereafter a great torment. (33)

O Messenger! Let not those who vie with one another in the race to disbelief grieve you, of such who say: “We believe with their mouths and their hearts do not believe”. And some of those Jews who listen to you, are the listeners to lie to another people who have not come to you. They alter the words from their places, saying: “If you are given this, take it, and if you are not given this, then beware”! And as for him whom Allah wills that he should remain into Al-Fitnah (temptation, discord) you cannot stop for him anything from Allah. Those are they for whom Allah does not want that He should purify their hearts. For them there is a disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter a great torment. (41)

Verily, We did send down the Torah in which is Guidance and Light. With it the prophets who submitted themselves (to Allah) judge those who are Jews. And those Rabbâniyyûn (who have dedicated themselves to their Lord), and the Ahbâr (Jewish scholars, rabbis) judged with what they are charged to guard from Allah’s Book, and they became witnesses upon it. Therefore do not fear the mankind and fear Me, and do not sell My Verses for a small price. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down, such are the disbelievers. (44)

And We have sent down to you the Book with the truth, confirming what is before it of the Book and a protector over it. Therefore judge between them by what Allah has sent down, and do not follow their vain desires diverging away from that which has come to you from the Truth (Hakk). For every one of you (you all) did We appoint a (single) Shariah (Divine Law) and a clear way. If Allah had willed, He would have made you one nation. But this is to test you in what He has given you. So vie with one another in good deeds. To Allah is your return all together. And He will then inform you of that in which you differed. (48)

And judge between them by what Allah has sent down; do not follow their vain desires. And be cautious of them, lest they cause you to fall into Fitnah from part of what Allah has sent down to you. But if they turn back (from the Truth), then know that Allah only intends to afflict them with some of their sins. And most surely many of the mankind are the Fâsiqûn. (49)

Then is it the judgment of the time of ignorance they desire? And who is better than Allah to judge for a people who are the owners of certainty (yaqîn). (50)

O you who believe (who wish to reach Allah before death)! Do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends. They are the friends of each other. And whoever amongst you turns to them (takes them for a friend), then surely he is one of them. Surely Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people. (51)

And you see those in whose hearts there is a disease, hastening towards them, saying: “We are afraid a misfortune may strike us”. But it may be that Allah will bring a conquest or a commandment from His Presence, so that they shall be regretting for what they have been keeping as a secret in them. (52)

And those who believe (who wish to reach Allah before death and submit to Allah) say: “Are these they who swore by Allah with the most binding of their oaths that they were most surely with you”? Their deeds have been wasted and they have become the losers. (53)

O you who believe (who wish to reach Allah)! Whoever from among you turns back from his Religion, then Allah will bring a people whom He loves and who love Him, humble towards the believers, stern (mighty) against the disbelievers. They strive hard in Allah’s Way and never fear the blame of the blamers. This is Allah’s Virtue. He gives it to whom He wills, and Allah is All-Giving, All-Knowing. (54)

O you who believe (who wish to reach Allah)! Do not take for friends those who take your religion for a mockery and a joke, from among those who were given the Book before you and the disbelievers. And have piety towards Allah if you are believers. (57)

And when you called to prayer, they made it a mockery and a joke. This is because they are a people who do not exercise their minds. (58)

Say: “Shall I inform you of what is worse than this and certain in retribution in the Presence of Allah? They are whom Allah has cursed and brought His Wrath upon, and of whom He made apes and swine and servants to Tâgût. These are worse in place and far more astray from the designed Way”. (60)

Should the learned men and the Rabbis not prohibit them from their speaking of what is sinful and their eating of what is unlawfully acquired? Certainly evil is that which they have been doing. (63)

And the Jews said: “The Hand of Allah is tied up (He is niggard)”. Their hands have been tied up and they have been cursed for what they said. Nay, both His Hands are widely outstretched. He spends as He wills. And what has been sent down to you (divine orders) from your Lord will certainly make many of them increase in inordinacy and disbelief. And We have put enmity and hatred among them till the Day of Resurrection. Whenever they kindle a fire for war, Allah puts it out. And they strive to make mischief on the earth. And Allah does not love the mischief-makers (causing corruption). (64)

And if only the People of the Book had believed (had wished to reach Allah before death) and had become the pious (the owners of Takwa), We would certainly have covered their sins and We would certainly have made them enter Naîm Heaven. (65)

And if the People of the Book had kept up (fulfilled) the Torah and the Gospel and that which has been sent down to them from their Lord they would certainly have eaten (many Blessings) from above them and from beneath their feet. There is a party of them who are Muktesid (keeping to the moderate course) (who have attained to the rank of sainthood, friendship of Allah, but not to the continuous “zikîr” - repetition of the Name of Allah). And (but) evil is that which most of them do. (66)

O Messenger! Proclaim what has been sent down to you from your Lord. And if you do not do it, then you have not conveyed His Message (what He sent onto you). And Allah will protect you from the people. Surely Allah does not guide the disbelieving people. (67)

Say: “O People of the Book! You are not upon anything (any religion) till you keep up the Torah and the Gospel and what has been sent to you from your Lord”. And surely that which has been sent down to you from your Lord shall make many of them increase in inordinacy and disbelief. Do not grieve therefore for the disbelieving people. (68)

Surely those who believe (who wish to reach Allah) and amongst those Jews and Sâbiûn (Sabians) and Christians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and do improving deeds (that cleans the souls’ hearts), then there is no fear on them, nor do they grieve. (69)

Verily We took the Covenant of the Children of Israel and sent Messengers to them. Whenever a Messenger came to them with that which their souls did not desire, some did they call liars and some they killed. (70)

They thought that what they did would not be a Fitnah (mischief), so they became blind and deaf (they were unable to see and hear the truth). After that Allah accepted their repentance. Then many of them became blind and deaf again. And Allah sees the best of what they do. (71)

Certainly those who said: “Surely Allah, He is the Messiah, son of Mary became the disbelievers”. Yet the Messiah (Jesus) told them: “O Children of Israel! Be servants to Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Surely whoever associates (other things) with Allah, then Allah has forbidden to him Heaven and his abode is the Fire. And there are no helpers for the wrong-doers”. (72)

Certainly they have disbelieved who said: “Surely Allah is the third of the three (one god out of the Trinity)”. And there is no deity but the only Deity. And if they do not desist from what they (insist to) say, a painful torment will fall on those of them who disbelieve. (73)

Do they still not then turn with repentance to Allah and ask for His Forgiveness? And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (74)

The Messiah (Jesus), son of Mary, is but a Messenger. Messengers before him have indeed passed away. And his mother was a Sıddîk (truthful, just). They both used to eat food (just like everybody else). See how We make the Verses clear to them. Then look, how they are deluded (from Allah). (75)

Those who disbelieved from among the Children of Israel were cursed by the tongue of David and Jesus, son of Mary. This was because they rebelled and used to exceed the limits. (78)

Certainly you will find the most vehement of men in enmity to the believers (Amenu) to be the Jews and those who are associators. And you will find the nearest in friendship to those who believe to be those who say: “Indeed We are Christians”. This is because there are hermits and clergy among them and because they are not arrogant. (82)

And why should we not believe in Allah and in that which has come to us of the Truth (in the Qur'ân and the Messenger) while we earnestly hope that our Lord should cause us to enter (Heaven) along with the Sâlihîn (improved people)? (84)

Allah does not call you to account for what is vain in your oaths. But He calls you to account for the making of deliberate oaths. So its expiation is the feeding of ten needy out of the middling you feed your families with, or their clothing, or the freeing of a slave. But whosoever cannot find these, should fast for three days. This is the expiation of your oaths when you break them (your oath). And guard your oaths. Thus does Allah make clear to you His Verses, that you may be grateful. (89)

On those who believe (who are âmenû, who wish to reach Allah while they are alive) and do improving deeds (cleansing the souls’ hearts) there is no sin for what they ate, when they did not have piety (the 1st Takwâ). And be âmenû (believe) and do improving deeds (the 2nd Takwa). And thereafter have piety (have the 3rd Takwâ). Be âmenû (believe) and then have piety (the 4th Takwâ) and be the best of the best (Ahsen). And Allah loves the Muhsin ones (those who became the best of the best, and have the 4th Takwâ). (93)

O you who believe! Do not kill wild game while you are in Ihrâm. And whoever among you shall kill it intentionally; the compensation is the like of what he killed, from the cattle, as two just persons among you shall judge. An offering to be brought to the Ka’ba or the expiation is the feeding of the poor or the equivalent of it in fasting, that he may taste the heavy price of his deed. Allah has pardoned what is gone by (these kinds of committed offences). And whoever returns (to it), Allah will inflict retribution on him. And Allah is All-Mighty, Owner of Retribution. (95)

And if you question about them while the Qur'ân is being sent down, they shall be explained to you. Allah has forgiven that (because of the things you ask about without knowing this rule). And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Gentle. (101)

O you who believe (who are âmenû)! When (the state of) death draws nigh to one of you, at the time of bequest, let two just men from among you bear witness between you. Or if death befalls you while you are travelling in the land, call to witness the two men who are not of you. You should detain them after the prayer; if you doubt. They shall both swear by Allah saying: We will not take for it a price, even though it was a near kinsman, and we will not hide the testimony of Allah. Otherwise certainly we should be of the sinful. (106)

Then if it becomes known that they both have been guilty of sin, let two others stand in their place who are foremost in claim from those who have a lawful right, and they swear by Allah saying: “Certainly our testimony is truer than the testimony of those two, and We have not exceeded the limit”. Otherwise most surely we should be of the wrongdoers. (107)

I have taught you the Book and the Wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel. And you were healing the blind and the leprous by My Permission. You were bringing forth the death by My Permission. And when you came to the Children of Israel with clear arguments I withheld their attacks from you (saved you)”. But those who disbelieved (who were in disbelief) among them said: “This is nothing but clear magic”. (110)
